First and foremost, you'll have to download the app. It is available in the Japanese App Store and Google Play under the name ゆうちょ手続きアプリ (Yuucho Tetsuzuki Apuri).

Important! This method takes longer than visiting a JP Post location. All the documents sent through the app need to be verified, and it takes 1 week for the bank to do so.
So, if there are any errors with the application, a correction will need to be made, and another week will be required for verification.
Here are common reasons a verification fails, according to JP Post Bank:
- We cannot open an account based on your declared purpose of the transactions.
- Be specific as to why you need an account!
- The expiration date on your personal identification document has passed.
- If the Residence Card's expiration date is within 3 months of the application date, your application will be denied.
- The image on the Residence Card was incomplete.
- Be careful not to cover any part of your Residence Card when taking the picture or to send one with too much reflection, making it difficult to read the information on it.
